The Green Schools Green Map is an interactive online Google-based map that will provide an easily understood self-graded Report Card for all of NYC's schools. Each will be able to report their progress on greening their habits, youth projects, school programs, the school's building and grounds, framed for youth assessment as:
- Green Lifestyles at School
- Nature: Fauna and Flora at School
- Youth Leadership on Campus
- Greening Around the School
- School Building and Grounds Maintenance
Why? Nearly 2 million New Yorkers are under 18, yet now, they are left out of most greening efforts and learn in unhealthy environments. Our citywide Green Schools Green Map will have easily compared report cards showcasing positive efforts of all kinds. The Green Schools Green Map project will involve students in helping schools 'improve their grades', yielding greener schools, more empowered youth and through them, informed community!

The Green Schools Green Map will be accessible on its own and within the forthcoming openGreenMap, an interactive Green Mapmaking website, as seen in this 3 minute video. openGreenMap will make its public debut in mid-2008, and the Green Schools Green Map will be launched during the Fall 2008 semester. Both will utilize the freshly updated Green Map Icons, our renowned universal symbol system.
