Created to highlight and connect sustainability resources of all kinds, the globally designed set of Green Map Icons is purportedly the world's only universal symbol system for maps. Copyrighted by Green Map System, Inc., 2003, they actually date back to 1995, when eco-designers and others pooled their insights to create the first version of this lively symbol set. Powerful Green Map uses Version 2. Version 3 of the Green Map Icons will make its debut at GreenMap.org/icons in February 2008!. Used by all Green Mapmakers, the Icons convey a unique sensibility about the local environment to Green Map users around the world. Each Green Mapmaker sets them in a local context, but all have a general meaning so they are understandable everywhere. Many opt to color-code them, our map's spectrum is on the left. The legend below defines their usage on the Powerful Green Map.
