News & Impacts

While the Powerful Green Map is the first Green Map devoted to entirely to energy, most of the 230+ locally published Green Maps chart a cross-section of related renewable energy, mobility and infrastructure sites. Several inspiring cycling-themed Green Maps have been created in the US, Japan and The Netherlands since 1999.

Even before this Powerful Green Map was completed in early 2006, it was generating interest in the global Green Map network: it inspired a Taiwanese company to Green Map all its facilities, saving lots of energy and CO2 in 2006-07 (read about Delta Electronics on our corporate social responsibility page) and ongoing efforts by Thailand Environment Initiative that have brought real change to 46 Thai cities!

More impacts: As the globally shared Green Map Icons are being updated to reflect our evolving understanding of community sustainability, new energy-related symbols are included, so more Green Maps will be able to highlight important local generation, renewable and environmentally advanced energy sites around the world. The new iconography is complete as of February 8, 2008!

Debut event: The Powerful Green Map's launch took place Feb 15, 2006 at the The New School's Tishman Environment & Design Center, an exciting new development in higher education in NYC. We hope more projects that combine the interests of Green Map System and TED Center will take shape in the future.

Update: By mid September, 60% of the copies of this map had been distibuted to over 50 sites and events around the city. Pick up a copy in any borough.
