08-25-08: We would love to be a part of this map! Please see our website at www.bwtogo.com. We are a completely Natural Catering Company providing organic, locally grown foods and biodegradable products. Submitted by Christina Leamer.
5-18-07: Great news about one of the 100 new greenroofs sprouting in NYC since our map was published! Last Spring School of the Future students installed a greenroof on our roof. In light of global warming, urban heat island and combined sewage overflow problems facing the city, we are proud to have a greenroof which can help mitigate all of these problems - not just on our microclimate scale. Submitted by Allison Godshall at School of the Future - 127 East 22nd Street, Manhattan
2-15-06: Any plans to integrate the Green Map with Google Maps? Check out www.garbagescout.com for an example of how this is done. Nice approach to reuse! and yes, we are planning to work with Google Maps in the near future - see coming soon.
2-18-06: I thought the Green Apple Map community might be interested in my newly published website, www.drosera-x.com. It has information on urban ecology, biophilia, NYC metropolitan area, native plants, invasives species, and plant lists; invasive plant species, native substitutes for invasive garden plants or windowsill. Also included is a very extensive resources page, covering biological diversity, insects, natural history, native plant societies, soils, and land trusts. Hope you find it useful. 3-1-06: It would be great if Wave Hill's website could be included with the other botanical gardens OPPS! here it is: wavehill.org. Although its location is on the map, we hope you will check the website and visit Wave Hill soon! Thanks to Julia Waters at Wave Hill!
3-2-06: Hey GreenMap!! Thanks so much for putting us on your map!! Unfortunately, confusing Queens street names have led to our Build it Green! store being in the wrong place. We are actually about 8 blocks directly north of Noguchi Museum, practically on the East River and just south of the Triborough Bridge by 3 blocks. Thanks again for your great work. Justin Green, Build It Green! A non-profit salvaged, surplus and green building material store. 3-17 26th Ave. (at 4th Street), Astoria, Queens, 718-777-0132
3-4-06: Hi, The map is fantastic. Just wanted to let you know that Audubon no longer has a seafood program, and any web information they have up at seafood.audubon.org is outdated. A better source for sustainable seafood information is our site, www.blueocean.org/seafood. We are constantly updating the information on it. Best fishes, Mary Turnipseed, Blue Ocean Institute
3-6-06: Visit the Sallan Foundation's website for the Climate Rescue report and other timely energy resources!
3-16-06: A new community minded bakery opened on 1st Avenue (near 14th Street), it's green and organic. Even the shopfront and the shopowner's clothing! Check out their website for tips on how to build your own green bakery. And they have delicious cookies!
10-16-06: There's an exciting new resource in town- it supplies readily available green building materials to the construction trade. Green Depot, 1 Ivy Hill Way, Brooklyn, NY 11211, 718-782-2991, check out greendepot.com. They have a 2nd location, in the Bronx, which, they tell us, offers a wide range of environmentally friendly products for your home that are healthy, hypoallergenic, natural, sustainable and recycled. It's called Environmental Depot, 901 East 134th street, Bronx, NY 10454, 718-292-0626, find out more at www.environmentaldepot.com.
11-09-06: Urban Spring is a wonderful green juice bar in Brooklyn. This bar is built from the salvaged remains of Washington Sq. Park's "Peace Church". They do as many green practices as they can think of: wind power, CF bulbs, energy star appliances, low flow faucets and toilet, low-voc finishes, biodegradable packaging. According to Gordon Kindlon: "We hope to let the world know that one more business has taken the green plunge". 185 De Kalb Avenue at Carlton, Brooklyn NY 11205, 718-237-0797. www.urbanspring.net.
